Getting divorced is like jumping off a cliff into a vast pool of the unknown. The legal system has procedural steps for going through the process—file a declaration, divide property and arrange custody of the children. Yet, divorce is also a time a strong emotions and tremendous personal change. It is one of life’s most difficult experiences and cuts us down to our core. At times, you may feel like you have been thrown into the choppy waters of the ocean where overwhelming forces are pulling you in different directions.
Under the chaos, drama, and mountains of paperwork are the rich resources that all of us have. While you are in the process divorce can feel like a threat to your survival. Like a midwife, I will help you push through the birth canal of family court and into a new life. Positive changes can emerge from the process--like breaking patterns that don’t work and building ones that do—for you and your children.
As a clinical therapist, I have expertise in the emotional and interpersonal aspects of family relationships.I have extperience with estrangement and enjoying helping with Parent/Child reconciliation. I also have training in the legal system and can help you navigate the process.
I also a trained mediator. As a mediator, I can help couples work out agreements before having to utilize the costly court system. As a former children’s therapist, I am enthusiastic about helping parents develop good co-parenting schedules that protect children from the problems that can arise if their parents are not on the same page. Long drawn out litigation is hard on families and costly.
I also have experience with high conflict divorces where one parent refuses to negotiate or follow court orders. Or where one parent fosters child alienation. This can cause enormous stress on a family. Besides support, it is crucial to skillfully manage these processes through the legal system.
Every divorce is different yet they all provide silver linings and hidden treasures.
